Shower Fixture Specifications
- Shower fixtures for penal
use generally consist of a stainless steel wall plate with anchor
rods securing it to the wall. Valves and piping are normally
located within and behind the wall where the shower panel is
mounted.
- Most commonly, a penal shower
is served by a tempered water supply to a single pushbutton metering
valve which the inmate can activate for a predetermined time
by pushing the button. This is the most secure type of shower
available for penal use.
- This type shower requires
an accessible pipe chase where valving and piping can be serviced
without entering the shower area.
- There are some circumstances
where an accessible pipe chase is not available and showers must
be serviced from the shower room. Although these front accessible
showers utilize tamper resistant screws, they are far less secure
than rear mounted panels. In these cases specify:
- a recessed front accessible
shower can be specified or
- a surface mounted shower
panel .
- Also, these front access
shower panels are frequently specified with a variety of optional
types of shower heads and shower valves. Specify:
- type shower head
- type of valve
- soap dish is desired,
- surface mounted or
- recessed type
